Our commitment: Tech Simian is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the accessibility of our website in accordance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. If you encounter barriers, please contact us and we will respond within 2 business days.

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

Tech Simian believes that the internet should be accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or disability. We are committed to providing a website experience that is usable by the widest possible audience, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, keyboard navigation, or magnification tools.

We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. We continuously review and improve our website to eliminate barriers and improve the experience for all users, including those with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, or speech disabilities.

2. Applicable Standards

Tech Simian aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. WCAG 2.1 is developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and represents the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility. These guidelines are organized around four principles, often referred to as POUR:

Perceivable

Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive — including through assistive technologies.

Operable

User interface components and navigation must be operable — including by users who rely on keyboard navigation or other non-mouse input methods.

Understandable

Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable, with readable text, predictable behavior, and clear error messages.

Robust

Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including current and future assistive technologies.

3. Current Conformance Status

Partially Conformant

Tech Simian is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are actively working to address known gaps and improve overall conformance.

Known areas where we have achieved strong accessibility:

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy throughout the website
  • All images include descriptive alternative text (alt attributes)
  • Color contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements for body text
  • Navigation is accessible via keyboard (Tab, Enter, Escape keys)
  • ARIA landmark roles are applied to key page sections (header, main, nav, footer)
  • Form fields include associated labels and accessible error states
  • Skip-to-main-content links are available on all pages
  • The website does not use content that flashes more than three times per second
  • Focus indicators are visible for keyboard navigation

Areas where we are actively working to improve:

  • Some third-party advertising content served through our distribution partners may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA — we work with our partners on accessibility standards but cannot fully control third-party content
  • Older article content may include images without complete alternative text — we are in the process of reviewing and updating historical content
  • Some video content linked from our platform may not include captions — we are implementing a captioning standard for new video content
  • PDF documents linked from the website may not be fully accessible — we are reviewing our document accessibility practices

4. Assistive Technology Compatibility

Tech Simian is designed and tested for compatibility with the following assistive technologies and browsing environments:

  • Screen readers: NVDA with Firefox, JAWS with Chrome, VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS), TalkBack with Chrome (Android)
  • Keyboard navigation: Full keyboard operability without requiring a mouse
  • Browser zoom: The website is functional at up to 200% browser zoom without loss of content or functionality
  • High contrast mode: The website is compatible with Windows High Contrast mode and macOS increased contrast settings
  • Mobile accessibility: The website is compatible with mobile screen readers and touch-based accessibility features on iOS and Android

5. Technical Specifications

Tech Simian's website relies on the following technologies for WCAG 2.1 conformance:

  • HTML5 — for semantic structure
  • CSS3 — for presentation and responsive design
  • JavaScript — for interactive components (with progressive enhancement)
  • ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) — for enhanced screen reader support on interactive elements
  • WAI-ARIA 1.1 landmarks and roles throughout the page structure

We do not rely on technologies that are not supported by the majority of screen reader and assistive technology combinations. Core content is accessible without JavaScript enabled.

6. Accessibility Features

Specific accessibility features implemented on techsimian.com include:

  • A visible reading progress indicator (does not affect page content)
  • Responsive design that adapts to screen sizes from mobile to large desktop
  • Text that can be resized up to 200% without overlapping or loss of functionality
  • Sufficient color contrast for text, UI components, and focus states
  • Descriptive link text that makes sense without surrounding context
  • Clear page titles on every page that accurately describe the content
  • Language attribute (lang="en") on all pages for screen reader language detection
  • Animated elements (such as the news ticker) can be paused by hovering
  • Form validation errors are communicated both visually and programmatically

7. Third-Party Content

Tech Simian distributes content through the Outbrain native advertising network and may embed content from third-party sources. We require our primary advertising partners to meet reasonable accessibility standards, but we cannot guarantee full WCAG 2.1 compliance for all third-party content, advertising, or linked external websites.

If you encounter accessibility barriers in third-party content appearing on or linked from techsimian.com, please inform us and we will work to address the issue with the relevant partner.

8. Formal Complaints and Alternative Access

If you are unable to access any content on techsimian.com due to a disability, or if you experience an accessibility barrier, we want to know. We are committed to providing reasonable accommodations and alternative access to content where full accessibility cannot immediately be achieved.
